Speaker Bio:

Thom Kramer 

Thom is a safety consultant and structural engineer with 29 years of experience. He is an internationally recognized expert in applying engineering and safety practices to reduce risk for workers at heights. As a dually registered professional engineer and certified safety professional, he specializes in the assessment and design of fall protection systems, as well as fall protection program development and training.  Thom is the most recent past Chair of the ANSI/ASSP Z359 Full Committee and president of the International Society for Fall Protection. He is widely considered as a thought leader in the fall protection and work at height industry, having given more than 200 technical sessions and workshops on the topic.

The importance of planning for a rescue in advance of a fall incident cannot be stressed enough. Creating a rescue plan for a workplace requires that many factors be considered, including the availability of nearby emergency response personnel, on-site rescue personnel, rescue equipment, proper training and responsibilities of each role involved in a rescue. When planning for a rescue, suspension trauma should be considered. The presenter will discuss the signs and symptoms of suspension trauma, the effects of suspension trauma on a workers body, what to do (and not do) to avoid further complications, and more.
